Kastro, Thassos | Kastro is located Northeast of Limenaria toward the center of the island. The medieval village sits at an altitude of 450 meters, and like many of the other mountain villages, it cannot be seen from the coast. This helped to protect the village and it’s residents from the plundering of pirates through the ages.
It’s name derived from the ruins of a castle that once stood there. Jacob Gatelluzzi, a Genoan to whom Byzantine Emperor Emanuel II Palaiologus gave both Thassos and the island of Lesvos to in 1414, built the castle on the mountaintop at which the village is located. The Gattilussi family ruled Thassos for 40 years. Evidence of this can be found on three plaques on a wall of The Church of Agios Athanasios.

Click Here to plan your trip in Theologos | The historically-rich village of Theologos stands 220 meters above sea level, in the mountains of Thassos just 10 kilometres Northeast of Potos. It is 55 kilometres from Thassos Town and 38 kilometres from the port in Skala Prinos.
Theologos was once Thassos' major market place and also the location of the island’s government during the Turkish Occupation from 1455 till 1813 and later the Egyptian rule between 1813 and 1902. The history of the village goes back much farther before that though. It lived through the Byzantine Era during which it was given its name and it also contains remnants of the past far before that. Theologos, until the last century, was the most important village on the island, being both the economic and political center of Thassos.

Click Here to plan your trip in Potos | Potos is a wonderful coastal village on the island's South side 45 kilometers from Thassos Town and 28 kilometres from the port in Skala Prinos . It has developed into a settlement with permanent residents in the last few decades but has not always been this way. Before it was used primarily as a harbor by the people of Theologos, so it was not much more than a fishing village. Fishing is very good on the South side of the island, better than the northern waters. The waters here are deeper and offer a higher population of fish and a larger variety of them as well. This makes Potos quite a busy area all year round. The Winter season is arguably the best time to fish because of the more kind of fish that are available to catch, including squid and octopus.
