Skala Potamia is a very popular beach resort located almost 15 kilometres from Thassos Town and about 32 kilometres from Skala Prinos. The beach stretches along a bay on the Northeast side of the island that is surrounded by a spectacular chain of wooded mountains including Mount Ipsario, the tallest mountain on Thassos that soars 1204 meters, or 3950 feet above sea level.  The bay offers over two kilometres of sandy beach with few small areas of rock and pebbles. The overwhleming majority of Golden Beach is pure white sand, very fine and perfect for children to play and build sand castles with. The beach got its name from the color of the sand during the afternoon hours as the sun shines brightly on it, giving it a golden color. Golden Beach proudly flys two Blue Flags.

The southern half of Golden Beach is called "Chrissi Akti" by the locals. "Chryssi" in English translation means "golden". Walking from the South end of the beach northward, you will eventually reach the tourist resort town of Skala Panagia that occupies the hillside along the other end of Golden Beach, otherwise knows as "Chrissi Ammoudia".

The major port town of Limenas, or Thassos Town, is the island's capital. It is connected via ferry boat to the town of Keramoti and also to the city of Kavala by hydrofoil. It has more to offer its visitors than most can fit in a single day. The environment surrounding the town is breath-taking, rolling hills and mountains covered in pine forests and olive groves. It is on the North side of the island facing the mainland and you can see the city of Kavala from here glittering in the distance on sunny days. This is where the heart of Thassian society thrived during the ancient times, and there is plenty here to show for it.

The largest archaeological site is found at the rear of the old port in Limenas. In the middle of the ancient agora there was a court flanked by colonnades that were decorated with statues, altars and votive offerings. The ancient conservatory was a place where music performances were held. Hercules, Poseidon and Dionysos' sanctuaries were the three most important holy places in Thassos. The ancient theatre has dominated the piney hillside since the 5th century BC; some sections date from the Roman times. On top of the hill, past the citadel towers of the acropolis, you can marvel at the impressive remains of the foundations of Athena's temple. While going down along the southwest side of the wall, you pass through Silen's Gate, Hercules' Gate, and Dionysos’ Gate and further down through Zeus and Hera's Gates.

Potos is a wonderful coastal village on the island's South side 45 kilometers from Thassos Town and 28 kilometres from the port in Skala Prinos . It has developed into a settlement with permanent residents in the last few decades but has not always been this way.

Before it was used primarily as a harbor by the people of Theologos, so it was not much more than a fishing village. Fishing is very good on the South side of the island, better than the northern waters. The waters here are deeper and offer a higher population of fish and a larger variety of them as well. This makes Potos quite a busy area all year round. The Winter season is arguably the best time to fish because of the more kind of fish that are available to catch, including squid and octopus.

This beautiful beach resort town is an increasingly popular destination among Thassos' visitors.  It is located about 14 kilometres from Thassos Town and 31 kilometres from Skala Prinos . It borders Golden Beach, or "Chrissi Ammoudia", a two and a half kilometre- long sandy beach that reaches the neighboring resort town of Skala Potamia on the other side of the bay.

The other end of the beach is called "Chrissi Akti". "Chrissi" in English translation means "golden", and the beach was given its name because of the vast stretch of sand that it is made up of which takes on a golden color when the sun is high in the sky shining brightly on it. It is a very fine, white sand that dominates most of the beach. A few short spans of the beach have rock, but much of the 2.5 kilometres, which count as the longest beach on Thassos, is pure sand. The water is clearer than one can imagine, which makes snorkeling a very popular activity here. The beach is shallow and makes it a very safe place for children to swim and play in.
