My Thassos balcony in winter
Helen of Troy
Wednesday, 13 January 2010

What did I do that was good in a previous life to enable me to be so lucky in this one?

Here I am in Thassos town, midwinter by anyone's calculation, standing on my balcony overlooking the whole of Limenas bay and opposite to Keramoti and Kavala, drinking my coffee, basking in mid-January temperatures of 15° whilst back in the rest of Europe everyone is knee-deep in snowdrifts. The air is still, the sky is blue if somewhat watery blue in comparison to the deep azure of Midsummer, the perfumed smoke from the log fires where the local people are burning their surplus olive and pine logs, rises lazily high into the sky as there isn’t even the slightest breeze.

The ferries come and go with precision and majesty as always, the local people stroll by, stopping to chat or popping in for coffee into the local bars and cafes, as January is time for relaxation and just be and enjoying the beauty of Thassos Island in winter...

Latest Website News
Saturday, 14 March 2009

Spring is finally in the air on Thassos. The temperatures are starting to rise and flowers are starting to bloom. In no time, Thassos will come back to life as businesses begin preparing for the 2009 summer holiday season.

For the last few months, Thassos has been very quiet as the locals enjoy the quiet that the winter brings. On the other hand, we at Go-Thassos have been quite busy preparing all winter long for the debut of a fresh new look for Spring 2009. After many months of work, we're almost ready to present the new and updated look of Go-Thassos. We aren't going to say much about the newest feature of the site...that will be a surprise, but soon you will see what it is.

Be on the lookout for a bold new look as we welcome you to Thassos on the internet. Will you be ready?

Why Not Visit Thassos - Whatever the Time of Year
Thassos Journal
Friday, 07 November 2008
By Phil Thorp

After visiting Thassos on eleven occasions in the past ten years you could say that my wife Carolyn and I are hooked on the place.

And you'd be right.

To say Greece's Emerald Island is home from home for us is something of an understatement, but don't think for a minute we are on our own. Hundreds of people return year after year to sample the unique and special hospitality the local people offer in abundance on this island of natural beauty.

To date we have only been able to visit during the summer months, from May to September, when the package tour operators fly into Kavala. But now we have just discovered that we can visit Thassos all year round, independantly without a single “middle-man”.

Brucellosis "Epidemic" in Thassos is a false statement
Latest Thassos News
Thursday, 05 June 2008

What a joke!

All of a sudden the Thassian people have heard that there is an "epidemic" on their beautiful island. They start looking at each other with suspicious looks considering the possibility that their neighbour may have spent last night in a shepherd's home drinking unprocesed milk or eating Feta that has not been cured!
