Hello James, We always use Potos for our car rental - they are local. If you're staying in Thassos Town, they have an office by the ferries. Hope that helps.

Andy - the Blue View looks lovely!the locals are expecting this heat wave to continue until after the weekend so fingers crossed!We have eaten at some lovely places - The Amici is one(we go back to year after year) and also the Stelakis is a beautiful taverna.

sorry taz suki we not staying with karen & stavros, they are now with saga but only the german one. went to see them in may and they both fine.They arnt doing breakfast any more just the bar so you can still go and see them and have a few drinks.i wish thomsom hadnt dropped them and so do a lot more people.

We would also love to go back to Karen and Stavros so would be interested to know if it is possible now. Not going to Greece this year as bothered by the Greek economy should it worry us????

Stayed at Marina apartments about 10 years ago at golden beach,it was the the best holiday i have ever had by far.Thassos is so very special would so like to return to this wonderful island one day it is an experience i will never forget.please dont spoil Thassos with mass tourism as it is such a special place.

hi Andy - we are going to stay in Limenaria on sunday for two weeks!It is our 7th time in Limenaria - we just love it!There are lots of good tavernas to eat- about 10 to 20 minute walk depending on where you choose to eat.You are staying a minutes walk from a beautiful beach and the sea is lovely to swim in.The Amici is a lovely eating place - there is the vythos sports bar close by - we usually stay around Limenaria but we are going to venture to golden beach after watching the beautiful views from this great webcam!!I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay!

Limenaria is a nice little place quite busy , we always hire a car or bike and go round the island always seem to have lunch there. if you don't mind driving there is one road round and it is truly breathtaking the views are fab. you can also get the local bus and go all round on that. If like us you love Thassos you will keep going back i know you will like it but sssh don't tell anyone about it we need to keep Thassos to ourselves.

Hi Viv, you took the words right out of my mouth and beat me to the e. mail. Please support the greeks, thats why we go to thassos to sample their traditions, generosity and friendship. Golden Sands is a wonderful place to chill as is the escape bar. Keep english breakfasts at home!!!!!

Couldn't agree more - never have understood why anyone would want to travel abroad for an English breakfast.
Looking forward to Greek salad, baclava, walnut cake, spinach pie, beef stifado and so many other great traditional dishes. Not forgetting the wonderful honey! We like trying different dishes everyday -
Had a delicious omelette in Thassos town last year, feta, courgette and mint!!
All washed down with a mythos or a local wine!! Counting the days off now to July (38 Sleeps) when we will be visiting for our second time.

Why would anyone travel all the way to Thassos to get an English breakfast? Come on folks - get some Greek coffee, eggs, yoghurt and honey and go check out The Fedra or Golden Sands overlooking the beautiful bay of Golden Beach first thing in the morning. It's magical!

The Agean Bar is on the main road into Scala Potamias look out for the timber built fire look out post on the beach. The Agean is also accessable from the beach.

Just got back from Thassos. Had a great time with all my family. Stayed in a villa on the outskirts of Golden Beach, my boys still managed their afternoon mythos at the Agean Bar with Ann and Ian. It was also lovely to see our friends at the Alkioni taverna. See you in September.

The camera movements you see are done manually, so whenever you see it is not moving for a long time this means that none of our team members are available to change its position. We are trying to get the automatic movements back to work so that you will always see movement and different views every time you visit.

hi jayne been in thassos town last 3 years you are talking about 20 to 25 euros for ameal like that for 2 people thats with a half lite of wine. we are going back in 2 weeks time and it cant come quick enough.

Returning to Thassos after 4 years and can't wait! But don't know how much to budget for. Can anyone advise roughly what a meal for (bread/greek salad plus main meal and drink) would be for 2 people in Thassos town. We used to eat a Doukas. Hope he is still there.

Golden Beach looks really good at the moment, I'm glad to see the weather seems as though it's picked up from last week. Hopefully, this is the start of a long hot summer!

The Galaxy is a lovely place to stay! Great little pool area and spotlessly clean. It is a great base to enjoys walks through the quaint cobbled back streets of Thassos and eat at some great tavernas, day or evening, whether on the front or in the heart of the town. The museum in the square is very interesting. Walk through the boatyard at the other end of the fishing harbour, enjoy a drink in the cafe by the rocks and then amble up to the ampi-theatre. Takes a little longer and be prepared for the hills, but the walk to Makryammos Beach is worth it - take your swimming gear in your rucksack as there is loads to do when you get there - volleyball on the beach, fantastic swimming pool and restaurants. You can catch a bus in the day to anywhere on the island so you can get to do all the sightseeing very easily. It's a different holiday to say Golden Beach but still very enjoyable!

Hi Janice, we stayed at the Galaxy Hotel Thassos town, with our son who was 3 at the time,2 years ago, it was fantastic and the hosts were amazing too. Nice 5 minute walk into town for the beach or the bars, and all the historical sites too. we are envious of you if you're going! You must go to Remezo cafe for their morning cappaccino and toastie!! best we've ever had, cappaccino made with fresh cream not steamed milk, yum! yum! Have fun and Yammas!!!

The water was OK. A bit cloudy and chilly in the evenings. The water was OK once you got used to it! We had a thunderstorm that was really spectacular! Some of the restaurants/tavernas were still closed but I was told by this weekend everything will be open. I hope this helps.

What a beautiful morning - as though the rain and clouds have washed all the worries and troubles away. This just shows that the islands continue in their beautiful and peaceful way as always - let's all go to Thassos and forget all the cares and worries of our daily lives. As long as the sun rises and sets over Golden Beach there will be a haven of rest and beauty for us all!!

Just one thing would really make this perfect, would it be possible to display the current temperature like you get on the EarthCam website? Just returned from a weeks holiday to Golden Beach. We stayed in the Liberty Hotel which was absolutely fantastic. They are new apartments and are really good, and very well equipped. Stelios was marvelous and any problems we had he dealt with them straight away which is unusual as everything seems to be on Greek time! Also, every patio door has fly screens which was really helpful of a night. He does have a website so if you are looking for somewhere to stay right near the beach and tavernas then take a look. Just let him know Brenda and Russell told you about the hotel, he will be really pleased! Also a great place to eat is the Fedra, I have never seen such a large menu anywhere in Greece before.

Hi Bob, the only place to legally camp is the camping ground in Golden beach. It can get a bit busy in summer, but there seems to be plenty of room. If you are making your own way to Thassos drop me a line and I will be glad to give directions, and I am sure you will love the island.

I think you will be fine on your own. It's a quiet island and you will find lots of pretty places to dine. I don't see it as a couples kind of place. You should feel welcome, relaxed, and comfortable. Have a good vacation!

Jennifer Gillet If you mean the Anastasia studios at Golden Beach they are not up a hill at all, they are straight in front of the beach a 2minute walk and taverners supermarkets etc are near by .you can walk still on the flat from Scala panagia to Scala potamia also.Im sure youll love it .

Winter returns to Golden Beach!

Can't believe we were sitting in the middle of Panagia this time last week in 28 degrees heat, sipping Mythos and sharing a large Greek Salad and Meze with crusty bread.

We walked back to the Blue Bay in Golden Beach and we couldn't bear the heat and ran out of water!

I remember seeing a good number of taxis, even though there isn't much of anything near the airport. Bring insect repellant for the airport, just in case you end up there for a while. Depending upon the day/time, the mosquitos can be out in numbers!

Rowen, you should visit Town beach in Limenas. Safe swimming with lifeguard to hand. Lovely tavernas and free sunbeds and don't leave the island without going to see Costis, the island's last traditional potter and take home a unique remimder of your holiday. If you can get to the beach at Aliki, on the south coast, you'll be in for a treat!

Thanks to all on the island of Thassos for an absolutely fantastic week last week, the best weather we have ever had for the first week in May - very hot every day. Had some wonderful swims and fabulous meals in the resort of Golden Beach. Still in love with Panagia - so typically authentic Greek - 28 degrees in the square! Thomson's - dislike not being offered an inflight meal this year - too long a journey from the UK to live on sandwiches all day - and please re-employ the baggage handler's - it's not fair on those who have lost their jobs or the coach driver's who are having to drive and lift heavy suitcases in and out of the coaches all day. For those on the island who couldn't be bothered to open for the first week in May, despite the fact that there were plane loads of holidaymakers arriving - your loss - we won't bother to spend our money with you next year - we obviously don't matter to you as much as we thought - there is nothing worse than flying thousands of miles to find shutters and empty restaurants in resort!!

Don`t worry about the weather. We were there at the end of May last year, and we are going again this year in May. It was great. Sunny, not so hot and the water was great in the afternoon (a little chilly in the morning).

We have jsut returned from a lovely holiday incorporating the May Day Celebrations. Arrived to a good thunderstorm and then glorious sunshine thereafter. We have been traveling independantly since 2001 and it is so easy to arrange flights and accommodation.

Dont worry about the weather in Thassos we have been in June July and Sept and always got hot weather. Somedays so hot we had to cool off with a a drop of Mythos!!!!! Have a great time wish we were going this year but as Thomson have dumped Karen and Stavros we are loathed to find another place to come up to their standards.

Just wondering after reading severall homepages ihave heard that the
weather in thassos isnt as great as it is in the reast of the greece islands in late june. Is this something i have to bo worried about?

Thanks for asking that question!

We're waiting on Earthcam to provide us with a replacement of the camera's base, which will allow automatic movement as our previous webcam. It seems they've been having problems with the model they sent us last year. We can move the camera around to show different views but automated movements are not possible until the system is replaced. We've been in contact with Earthcam about this issue since last July (immediately after we noticed the problem) and have been waiting since then. It is a priority for us to get it working again, just there's no way to know exactly when it will happen. Perhaps if enough people write to Earthcam and request them to move faster, we may get the replacement sooner!

Hi to the brilliant Go Thassos team. Is there any news on when the webcam will be able to show different parts of Golden Beach and Skala Potamia? We are still loving the scenes that we can see now. Can't wait to August to be there!

The video about Thasos is very beautyfull. It remember me at our 5 holydays on the wonderful island with my husband. We were all the times at Skala Potamia and go by car around the Island. It`s very nice to eat under a big tree in the port of Limenas and look at the sundown!
I hope we can go back in a new holiday this summer!

hi every one in golden beach , again like every year will be taking a short break with my partner , visiting my lovely friends i have made over the past 25 years , i used to plan my visit by doing the trip getting my flights from thomson and arranging my accomadation direct , but the cost of taxi's as made myself reflect on the very good prices from thomson for the very first time , as only thomsons fly from the uk , i shall be arriving on 13 may so watch this space , enjoy ,

Been to Golden beach 7 times love it. Have not booked this year,booked to go to Corfu instead. Disgusted the way Stavros & Karan at the George hotel were treated by Thomsons. Just been looking at holidays and found the Marina for £178 per person going on May 6th cant miss that offer

What is this dark object thrashing about in the bay of Golden Beach? Is it a large fish, a dolphin, a small fishing boat - or just Dave (ex Garden Bar)taking his usual evening swimming exercise!?!

Tonight we have a mezede of stuffed vine leaves, stuffed chilli peppers, feta stuffed olives, beef tomato, feta cheese served with tzatzika and olive bread; followed by Moussaka with Greek Salad or Lamb Kleftiko with aubergines and potato; followed by fresh summer berries served with Greek honey and yoghurt; followed by Greek oil cake with walnuts and raisins served with coffee and Ouzo.

Yes, you've guessed it - we are in training for our Thassos holiday at the Blue Bay - can't wait!

We stayed at the Filippidis a few years ago it was lovely. They are not with Thomsons any more. You can book independantly but you still need a flight with Thomsons

Can anyone tell me where and when any "May Day Celebrations" will he held in 2012? We were lucky to see the children and locals dressed in their finest a few years ago. We were just passing through the village of Panagia on the way back from Thassos Town and would love to see and be a part of the celebrations once again - it was truly magical watching the parade winding through the old cobbled streets - very akin to the wedding parade scene in Shirley Valentine!

Beautiful clear blue sky , brilliant clear view of snow on Ypsarion and it appears the sea gently lapping on the beach . I'd love to be sitting on sunbed today with my fleece on and perhaps warm mythos for a change but perhaps not.

Wow ! looking at the fantastic powerful waves crashing against the rocks this morning and onto the beach . Although it looks cloudy ,cold,windy and wet I'd love to be there right now .

I can imagine the high volume of the beautiful rumble noise from the waves ....

I would love a walk up to Skala Potamia today along the beach wrapped up in a good coat it would be invigerating .

Its great. Any chance on your site fans could set up a library of videos of location in view. if you could set up a list here is a quick video few snaps of Golden Beach and view of the road to Potamia to add to show recommendations to visitors of what not to miss. The ride through narrow streets of Potamia is great.

karen and stavros are now with a german company,karen told me its just bar and no breakfast.we are going to nostos in may but we will definatly go and see them and the children.we emailed thomson in sept it took a while for a reply and all they said was the george was not avaiable for summer 2012!

have sent an email to thomson querying the decision to drop such a good hotel, we have stayed with stavros and karen several times and would like to do so again

Karen emailed me to say they knew nothing about being dropped until the end of last season and there had been bookings taken for 2012. Thomson treated them badly and even wanted them to say THEY chose to be dropped which they definatley didnt and if they sigend to say that Stavros was responsible to pay for the compensation to the bookings for 2012. She said she didnt know how they would market themselves for 2012 and hoped people who knew them would still call in and see them if in Golden Beach.

If I can find out what they are doing I will post on here. They were thinking of doing self catering but it would cost a lot to change the hotel.

perhaps you can do what we done years ago when thomson stopped going to the achillion hotel.
we booked direct with the hotel and got our own flights.it works out cheaper as well.

The George was probably dropped because it had so many return guests that Thomson sold few highly profitable excursions or car hires. After 18 years with Thomsons, 70-80% of guests were return customers. Karen & Stavros,a lot of us will miss you, good luck for the future.
