Thanks for asking that question!

We're waiting on Earthcam to provide us with a replacement of the camera's base, which will allow automatic movement as our previous webcam. It seems they've been having problems with the model they sent us last year. We can move the camera around to show different views but automated movements are not possible until the system is replaced. We've been in contact with Earthcam about this issue since last July (immediately after we noticed the problem) and have been waiting since then. It is a priority for us to get it working again, just there's no way to know exactly when it will happen. Perhaps if enough people write to Earthcam and request them to move faster, we may get the replacement sooner!

Hi to the brilliant Go Thassos team. Is there any news on when the webcam will be able to show different parts of Golden Beach and Skala Potamia? We are still loving the scenes that we can see now. Can't wait to August to be there!

The video about Thasos is very beautyfull. It remember me at our 5 holydays on the wonderful island with my husband. We were all the times at Skala Potamia and go by car around the Island. It`s very nice to eat under a big tree in the port of Limenas and look at the sundown!
I hope we can go back in a new holiday this summer!

hi every one in golden beach , again like every year will be taking a short break with my partner , visiting my lovely friends i have made over the past 25 years , i used to plan my visit by doing the trip getting my flights from thomson and arranging my accomadation direct , but the cost of taxi's as made myself reflect on the very good prices from thomson for the very first time , as only thomsons fly from the uk , i shall be arriving on 13 may so watch this space , enjoy ,

Been to Golden beach 7 times love it. Have not booked this year,booked to go to Corfu instead. Disgusted the way Stavros & Karan at the George hotel were treated by Thomsons. Just been looking at holidays and found the Marina for £178 per person going on May 6th cant miss that offer

What is this dark object thrashing about in the bay of Golden Beach? Is it a large fish, a dolphin, a small fishing boat - or just Dave (ex Garden Bar)taking his usual evening swimming exercise!?!

Tonight we have a mezede of stuffed vine leaves, stuffed chilli peppers, feta stuffed olives, beef tomato, feta cheese served with tzatzika and olive bread; followed by Moussaka with Greek Salad or Lamb Kleftiko with aubergines and potato; followed by fresh summer berries served with Greek honey and yoghurt; followed by Greek oil cake with walnuts and raisins served with coffee and Ouzo.

Yes, you've guessed it - we are in training for our Thassos holiday at the Blue Bay - can't wait!

We stayed at the Filippidis a few years ago it was lovely. They are not with Thomsons any more. You can book independantly but you still need a flight with Thomsons

Can anyone tell me where and when any "May Day Celebrations" will he held in 2012? We were lucky to see the children and locals dressed in their finest a few years ago. We were just passing through the village of Panagia on the way back from Thassos Town and would love to see and be a part of the celebrations once again - it was truly magical watching the parade winding through the old cobbled streets - very akin to the wedding parade scene in Shirley Valentine!

Beautiful clear blue sky , brilliant clear view of snow on Ypsarion and it appears the sea gently lapping on the beach . I'd love to be sitting on sunbed today with my fleece on and perhaps warm mythos for a change but perhaps not.

Its great. Any chance on your site fans could set up a library of videos of location in view. if you could set up a list here is a quick video few snaps of Golden Beach and view of the road to Potamia to add to show recommendations to visitors of what not to miss. The ride through narrow streets of Potamia is great.

karen and stavros are now with a german company,karen told me its just bar and no breakfast.we are going to nostos in may but we will definatly go and see them and the children.we emailed thomson in sept it took a while for a reply and all they said was the george was not avaiable for summer 2012!

have sent an email to thomson querying the decision to drop such a good hotel, we have stayed with stavros and karen several times and would like to do so again

Karen emailed me to say they knew nothing about being dropped until the end of last season and there had been bookings taken for 2012. Thomson treated them badly and even wanted them to say THEY chose to be dropped which they definatley didnt and if they sigend to say that Stavros was responsible to pay for the compensation to the bookings for 2012. She said she didnt know how they would market themselves for 2012 and hoped people who knew them would still call in and see them if in Golden Beach.

If I can find out what they are doing I will post on here. They were thinking of doing self catering but it would cost a lot to change the hotel.

perhaps you can do what we done years ago when thomson stopped going to the achillion hotel.
we booked direct with the hotel and got our own flights.it works out cheaper as well.

The George was probably dropped because it had so many return guests that Thomson sold few highly profitable excursions or car hires. After 18 years with Thomsons, 70-80% of guests were return customers. Karen & Stavros,a lot of us will miss you, good luck for the future.

The problem you described is an issue that everyone has been experiencing since we installed the new webcam. We are able to move the webcam around manually and sometimes you will see different views if you catch us in the act. Unfortunately it doesn't move automatically as our old camera did. We've been waiting for Earthcam, our webcam technology provider, to resolve this issue since July 2011. We intend to give you all of those wonderful views that you described and many more. We really hope that a solution will be found soon. Maybe we should all petition Earthcam to move faster in fixing this?

Hi, I do not seem to get the lovely views of Scala Potamia or the fishermans harbour with the new webcam, nor can i pan in for a beach and pier close up.I do miss this!!. How can I fix this please.I love to see the snow on the mountain.

The most beautiful beach on the island is definitely Marble beach (Saliari). When friend of mine saw my photo of that beach, he was sure that was from Caribbian islands. Sea is so blue and the sand is so white that you need glasses! There is no word to describe that beach....
Second, you have to see Paradise beach (Paradiso). Long beach with sand and shallow water for 100 meters from the shore.

Hahahaha. I was also watching the webcam yesterday and was also not paying attention for a minute. When I looked again I saw people dissapearing very quickly. Last year I was in Limenaria and missed it for I was too late and now I also missed it due to the wheather. Next year everything will work out I hope. LOL!

The event happened so quickly, I just had the the time to view something.

Good Morning friends,

Yesterday was a very important day in the Christian Orthodox religion and in Greece, but the weather proved to be far from favorable for The Epiphany. We had strong winds and heavy rain all day, including in the morning when the throwing of the cross took place. Although the locals in Golden Beach did go through with the event, it happened so quickly that we almost entirely missed the opportunity to snap a picture from the webcam!

As you may already know, there is never a specific time for this event and people just expect it late in the morning. We positioned the camera at 10am to show the part of the beach where the event takes place. From that point we began watching... and waiting. 11am came and I received a phone call. During the duration of this phone call I was less attentive of the camera, and when I looked up everyone was walking very quickly off the beach because they had just finished and the rain was coming down!

So many apologies to all our friends who were looking forward to seeing some nice photos but we only managed to snap one at the trailing end! Here's that photo.

Please keep in mind that the mist/haze has a major impact on the quality of the video. Today is quite a misty day so much of the blurriness is due to this reason, plus the Sun's position during Winter and the direction from which the light touches everything plays a role. It's not entirely the camera's fault. Some of the blame belongs to Zeus for creating these weather conditions..!

Ahhhh....the contours, i remember them well, the contours of the mountains, the trees , the beach......nothing wrong with the blerdy camera, some of us where still happy when the camera was in a bush for 2 weeks .....any live view is appreciated when your not there , keep up the good work xx

I miss Thassos so much and i cannot wait for the winter to pass so we can enjoy the beach, the sand and the great food again.This summer was my 1st time here and definately next summer i will return

I can get the Potos webcam no problem. The college IT people have uploaded the Flash because it is used elsewhere in the college. They say there may be a block but it is strange because I had your webcam before the change over. Ho hum. I just get a quick view at a weekend now!

What exactly is the problem? Make sure your internet browsers are up to date and that you have the latest version of Flash installed. Some networks (such as work or colleges) might block certain content from being accessed.

I wish I could mamage to see the lovely views. Since the new camera was put in place I cannot pick up the picture. Even our college IT dpt cannot get a link. Where are we going wrong??

It seems that there has been some concern amongst our visitors in the last few weeks about the smoke appearing in various locations. These small, controlled fires are normal to see during this time of year as the Thassians clear their land of over-grown weeds, plants, tree branches, etc.

Do not worry! The locals do this very carefully so to keep the fires under control.

Kavala is one of the most expensive airports for companies to use,so i don't think it would make any difference petitioning easyjet.You should try doing it to Kavala to get them to lower there rates,that way they may get budget airlines flying there.

After contacted with easy jet asking if there any plans for kavala, the answer was no at the moment beacuse of luck of slots and passengers. how ever they suggest that to put forward to the marketing department so they can have a better look at it.

1st October and still beautiful on my favorite island

: hi team just returned from 2 weeks staying at the liberty hotel ,one of the nicest people ive ever met .the hotel was wonderful too.

Hold on everybody! Thassos is a beautiful island which attracts couples and families looking for a tranquil peaceful traditional Greek island and it would be so nice if it remained that way for several years to come. There are no lager louts, no one looking for a Macdonald's Restaurant, no one looking for an English Breakfast or English beer. Holidaymakers who travel to Thassos go there looking for traditional Greek tavernas, enjoy the wonderful wildlife and ruggied mountain walks, love to visit the historical churches and monuments, sit with the locals by the spring in the square, admire the Greek women in their traditional dress and watch the donkey meandering through the little paved streets. It's quaint, it's quiet and we want it to stay that way please! Zante and other islands have introduced pole dancing clubs, Macdonald's Restaurants, "kiss me quick" tacky souvenir shops and worst of all bumper car rides on the beach! If Thassos wishes to keep it's authenticity and remain a safe beautiful haven for those seeking good clean accommodation, uncrowded beaches and the company of wonderful local people then don't make it too easy for the riff raff to come to the island. At present the long journey and the cost makes it impractical for large noisy families and non brainers to visit Thassos. hi tony, I think your idea is good to start a petition or to organise a way to ask the company about that e.g. with a questioner. easy jet should start to fly to kavala as this will easy the price through competition grounds with thompsons as they only there. iam going next week from gatwick to thessaloniki driving from leeds. i done it for 4 years now saved a fortune against thompson.

any thoughts i think all together sould put them on.

i have asked easyjet and ba before about new routes to kavala but they have said there was no plans for them moment. perhaps we should set up a petition.

we fly easyjet or ba to thessaloniki hire a car and drive to keramoti about 2 hours and get the ferry over to thassos its much cheaper than thompson who seem to be the only ones that fly to kavala but very expensive £500. we have done this for about 6 years with the family. if you want anymore info let me know.

I've just checked the Easyjet site, I cannot see any mention of them flying into Kavala, have you booked your flight with them from the UK?

Thanks for your help, other than Thomson who fly direct and Olympic Airways which takes around 12 hours because of 2 stop offs, it will be great if Easyjet start doing this route.

This will be fixed by Earthcam and the camera will be completely automatic, showing different views throughout the day and zooming in to your favorite parts of Golden Beach so that people can greet you from Thassos, just as they did with the old camera. I can't tell you when but hopefully very soon!

Until then we will continue moving the camera manually when ever we have the opportunity so that you may enjoy different sights.

I did it! I removed the Thassos webcam link from my Favourites bar to stop me daydreaming every time I went on the computer. I just can't keep staring at golden sands, crystal clear waters, blue skies over Ipsarion and people enjoying themselves in the sea while I am stuck in cold, wet, damp and dreary Britain. I have to move on! I lasted two days - today it's gone back on my Favourites bar - it's like a tonic - I don't smoke, I don't drink, but I need my Thassos fix!!

We disabled the camera's microphone for privacy reasons but we are trying to find a solution so that we can provide you the full experience with sound, without infringing on the privacy of Hotel Blue Bay's guests. We hope to be able to offer you the full experience in the future. Until then I hope the HD video will be enough.

Hi everyone,

Today at around 2 o'clock this afternoon a forest fire broke out on the mountainside between the villages of Potamia and Panagia. The fire was quickly met by the island's firefighters alongside with local citizens who succeeded in extiguishing the fire with the support of water-dropping airplanes.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the firefighting effort and a big thanks for putting yourselves at risk to protect our beautiful island, its inhabitants and all its visitors!

No special settings are needed, just at that moment you tried viewing the webcam there was a problem with either the internet connection or power supply to the camera and it wasn't sending the video stream to Go Thassos. When this happens, just wait a few minutes and then try refreshing the page. It could be a matter of seconds, minutes, or in some cases even longer before the stream is found again but it has nothing to do with your computer.

Hi! There are some special settings to do to my computer, web browser etc? I can't see the image, I only get stream not found. Thank's!

For me is one of the most beautiful places in the world and is where I want to live my life.

The new Web Cam is brilliant, but it does seem to showing a lot of the campsite!! Unless it is just my bad luck the times I log in. Perhaps a little more of Skala Panagia, please.

We move the camera to different locations as frequently as we can to show you all the views and activities happening in Golden Beach. Earthcam is still working to get the software to function properly so that the camera can move on its own, but till then we have to do this ourselves whenever we find the time. The itsy bitsy spider was very sad to leave (he was unharmed and moved peacefully) but we hope everyone's happy that the view is no longer obstructed by it. However, looking at the webcam feels a bit lonely now...

The camera works totally fine although there may be some periodic interferences to the internet connection at the hotel which causes the message "Feed not found." to show up. When it does this, just try again a few minutes later. We hope that when the internet connection at Hotel Blue Bay is upgraded (at the end of this month) this will stop being an issue.

Earthcam's tech team is working to resolve the bugs in the camera software that are preventing us from doing exactly that. As soon as it's resolved we will get the camera moving around as the old one did, showing you your favorite parts of Golden Beach from up close. No time frame has been given to us but they want it working just as much as we do.

Great picture but I don't like that it doesn't close in on certain parts of the beach like the old one. We returned from Golden Beach yesterday and the old cam focussed in on exactly where we spent our days, in the are just in front of Ta Pefka. We were hoping to be able to see our friends on cam who are still there.

Kalimera! Kalispera! Kalinichta! It's like all my birthday's have come at once! The depression has now lifted! Doesn't it make you just want to book another week in Golden Beach? The thought of dipping toes in that beautiful blue sea as you walk the length of the beach from the Fedra to Skala Potamia! The thought of Moussaka and Mythos at the Vigli with an Adonis waiting on you hand and foot! The thought of Lamb Kleftiko and Red Wine at the Playa de Oro restaurant and then a beautiful moonlight walk round the bay and back to the Hotel. The thought of sitting in the square in Panagia just watching the world go by! The thought of lovely long walks through the mountains with the views of Ipsarion in the background! The thought of ....... must stop dreaming and get back to work painting the bedroom!
