It is located about 14 kilometres from Thassos Town and 31 kilometres from Skala Prinos . It borders Golden Beach, or "Chrissi Ammoudia", a two and a half kilometre- long sandy beach that reaches the neighboring resort town of Skala Potamia on the other side of the bay. The other end of the beach is called "Chrissi Akti". "Chrissi" in English translation means "golden", and the beach was given its name because of the vast stretch of sand that it is made up of which takes on a golden color when the sun is high in the sky shining brightly on it. It is a very fine, white sand that dominates most of the beach. A few short spans of the beach have rock, but much of the 2.5 kilometres, which count as the longest beach on Thassos, is pure sand. The water is clearer than one can imagine, which makes snorkeling a very popular activity here. The beach is shallow and makes it a very safe place for children to swim and play in. |
There are many activities available on the beach including beach volleyball and even water sports like tubing, jet ski, riding a bananna boat, kayaking and more. There is even a water taxi that runs twice a day between Skala Potamia , Skala Panagia, Makryammos and Thassos Town . Golden Beach proudly holds two Blue Flags .  Golden Beach lays in front of Skala Panagia and stretches for two kilometres Skala Panagia is a relatively new town with little history to mention. It was developed mainly for the reasons of catering to the thousands of tourists who visit the area each year. There are plenty of facilities, shops and services offered here including car and motor rentals, café-bars, restaurants, tavernas, snack bars, souvenir shops, beach supply shops, mini markets, taxi service and a bus stop.
Recent years have witnessed a rapid increase in demand of real estate in the area and property values have risen drastically. The area is developing here faster here than anywhere else on Thassos. Most of the development consists of Summer homes and hotels, which is proof of the rising popularity of Skala Panagia. It's a remarkable place with a magnificent panoramic mountain view all around and a world-renowned beach, the perfect ingredients for a place where people would want to build their dream homes.

 Golden Beach is world-renowned and the view is stunning | Skala Panagia is very alive and vibrant during the Summer season, the opposite of the quiet Winter season. There are very few residents that live in the resort town year-round, many of the locals that run the shops and businesses here live in Panagia , Potamia and Thassos Town during the Winter. Many of them also have olive groves that they harvest the olives from after the tourist season, which they use to make olive oil, or they are processed to be eaten as olives. Some local residents also keep bee farms and produce all-natural honey that is sold to locals and tourists. The beach is empty during the cold months besides the walkers and joggers that enjoy it as a place to excercise.

Just back from our 9th visit to thassos staying at Emerald and wish the holiday didn't have to end.The weather was a bit strange but we still had a great time as we go off touring around the mountain villages.this year we went into Thassos Town and enjoyed the history talk in the old harbour.roll on next year as all being well we will return.Glad to see webcam back and a bit of updated material on the site. keep up the good work!
