For a very long time this town had been used mainly as a harbor for the people of the mountain villages of Rachoni and Agios Georgios. The long and sandy beaches that stretch along the coast are stunning, and because of this it has become more developed in recent years because of its increasing popularity among tourists. The water is shallow and crystal-clear, normally very calm and perfect for small children. If you walk along the beach you are bound to find water sports. The mainland can be seen directly across the sea on clear days. The city of Kavala is a spectacular sight to see when the sun is bright, it seems to glitter as the light reflects off the buildings and along the coastline. At night time it is just as beautiful, a high concentration of lights on the mountainside surrounded by the darkness of the sea and the sky. |

The people are welcoming and there is plenty in the area to offer its visitors. One of the largest super markets on Thassos is located here, although its prices rise during tourist season and some items can get quite expensive. It is also conveniently located near all of the larger towns that are fun for shopping and sight seeing. It is quick and easy to get here no matter which port you come in from. |

bags are packed, labels attached and euros in pocket... this time tomorrow family Nufaro will be in Skala Rachoni.... been waiting a whole 12 months for our holiday and been nearly five years since our last visit to beautiful Thassos... Nufaro junior will be celebrating her 13th birthday there on the 20th August and she can't wait to spend her b'day day in the pool and feeling the sand beneath her toes...
